South West - Sovereign Grace Conference 2008 (Don Fortner)
On Tuesday April 1st and Wednesday April 2nd we hope, in the will of the Lord, to host GraceAndTruthOnline.com’s 2008 Sovereign Grace Conference in East Devon.
Following his visit to this area last year we are delighted to welcome back Pastor Don Fortner as our speaker and would like to invite all those who are able to come along and hear him on this special occasion.
Don Fortner's ministry has been a great blessing to us over the years, a ministry in which the Lord Jesus Christ is always exalted. We trust that others too will find encouragement in hearing this ministry in Devon. May Christ be glorified in the preaching of His Gospel.
Our venue for this year’s conference is the excellent Sidholme Hotel in Sidmouth Devon. This is situated about 30 minutes south of Honiton on the beautiful East Devon coastline. Not only will visitors be able to attend the meetings at the Conference, but for those who are travelling from afar and wish to make a break of it rooms are available at excellent rates at the hotel – this will also provide opportunity for fellowship with others staying at the hotel. Bookings can be made through the hotel website (http://www.sidholme.co.uk/ ) or by telephone - 01395 515104 (Mention the Sovereign Grace Conference when booking). Alternatively there are of course a number of other good hotels and B+Bs throughout the East Devon area (a quick search on the internet should find some).

The Importance of Public Worship
The most important aspect of every believer's life is the public worship of God in the assembly of the saints. I know that statement is contrary to the popular opinion of religious people. But is it consistent with the Word of God and the experience of God's people? Here are five facts which demonstrate that it is.
1. GOD MEETS WITH SINNERS IN SAVING MERCY IN THE ASSEMBLY OF HIS SAINTS FOR WORSHIP (Acts 2:1, 37-41). Generally God saves his sheep in the place of public worship, where the gospel is preached. Sinners in need of mercy should seek mercy where it is always found. And mercy is always found in the house of God.
2. THE PUBLIC ASSEMBLY OF THE CHURCH IS THE GATHERING OF THE FAMILY OF GOD (Eph. 3:15). Every true local church is a family of saved sinners. And family members need each other, comfort each other, and help each other, because they love each other.
3. THE LORD JESUS CHRIST MEETS WITH HIS PEOPLE WHEN THEY ASSEMBLE IN HIS NAME (Matt. 18:20). Like Simeon of old, God's people come together seeking Christ. And they always find him in the house of God, the assembly of those who worship him.
4. THE ASSEMBLED CONGREGATION OF THE LORD IS THE PLACE WHERE GOD DEALS WITH MEN. Each local congregation of believers is the house and temple of God (I Tim. 3:15; I Cor. 3:16-17). God reveals his will, gives out his Word, shows his glory, instructs his people, and bestows his blessings in his temple.
5. THE NEGLECT OF PUBLIC WORSHIP IS THE FIRST STEP TOWARD TOTAL APOSTACY (Heb. 10:23-31). Those who willfully neglect the assembly of God's saints, though they may be thoroughly orthodox in doctrine, tread under foot the Son of God, count the blood of the covenant a useless thing, and despise the Spirit of grace. Their forsaking of public worship is proof that they never knew Christ (I John 2:19).

Don Fortner's Visit to Honiton (April 23rd-24th 2007)
On the 23rd and 24th of April 2007 Pastor Don Fortner of Grace Baptist Church, Danville, Kentucky paid a visit to Honiton during a rare trip to the United Kingdom (his last visit to the UK being 20 years ago). We thank the Lord for his visit, for the warm fellowship enjoyed with both Pastor Fortner and his wife Shelby and for his faithful preaching of the Gospel of Christ in this area.
Both meetings were very well attended, with the ministry being much appreciated by many of our brothers and sisters in Christ (some of whom travelled quite some distance in order to be present) who expressed their joy at being able to meet with one another for fellowship at such meetings. The Lord is greatly to be praised.
Listen to the two messages delivered by Don Fortner in Honiton here.
"As he is, so are we in this world" 1 John 4:17 by Don Fortner
"He hath done all things well" Mark 7:37 by Don Fortner
Our thanks and appreciation go to all who attended, to the Lord's servant for faithfully preaching Christ to us, and most of all to our Sovereign God who so blessed the preaching of His word to the souls of His people on this memorable and blessed occasion.
